Once you decide to windup your pension trust, the pressure is on to complete the process quickly and efficiently. However, with many pension schemes in the same position, the industry is struggling to keep up with demand.

Three key stages to an efficient pension wind-up

You’ll get a dedicated team to make sure things run smoothly, working with you through the key stages:

  • Post buy-in transaction data and benefit verification: This is the last chance to make sure that members are getting the right benefits insured. This stage may include GMP equalisation.
  • Buyout: The buy-in insurance policy in the trustee’s name is broken down so that each member gets an insurance policy in their own name and pension payments are made direct to the member rather than via the pension trust. This removes the pension trust’s liability and matching asset for each member.
  • Windup: Completing the process to dissolve the trust.
